The “VintageCam tested” badge: what it means

The badge on a phone listing shows that the seller tested exactly this model with the VintageCam test. What is checked, what is not, and how to get it.

On the Marketplace, some phones carry a green badge: “✔ VintageCam tested”. It is worth knowing what is behind it.

What the badge says

The seller has gone through the VintageCam test with exactly this phone model, I have approved the test, and the brand and model in the listing match the test. In about ten minutes the test checks whether installation, live picture, sound, light and the role as camera, viewer or guard work on the device. In the listing you see the role and how many test items worked.

What it does not say

The badge says nothing about scratches, battery condition or age of the individual phone and is not a guarantee. It is a snapshot: a manufacturer update can change behaviour. When in doubt, ask about the battery and have the device shown to you.

How to get it

Take the test with the phone you want to sell. Once I have approved it, it appears as a choice when you create the listing, provided brand and model match. There is one listing per test. Filling in the test also earns you a free month if you submit it for the first time; the conditions are on the test page.

Listing without a badge

The badge is voluntary. You can list your phone without a test too; it just gets slightly less attention in the default sorting, because tested devices appear first. More on the rules in the rulebook.
